Meet the Candidates


President

Asa

Asa is from Chicago, majoring in Neuroscience here at UIC with a minor in Logic, Argumentation, and Writing. On campus, he is part of the Honors College, is the President of the Red Shoes Review, a literary and art magazine, and is the founder and President of Light the Way, an org that provides mentorship to incoming freshmen. He is also the Director of Student Success of the Undergraduate Student Government. Asa is hoping to be UIC’s next USG President to continue his work advocating for the needs of UIC students, focusing on elevating their academic and campus experience. Fun fact, he was a martial artist for 12 years!


Vice President

Dilay

Dilay is an international student from Turkey pursuing a major in Industrial Engineering at UIC. On campus, she is the host of “Business Hours with Dilay” at UIC Radio, the social chair of PMT, a board member of Leaf, and a member of Phi Sigma Sigma and Student Activities Board. She also currently serves as the Director of Diversity and Inclusion in the Undergraduate Student Government. Dilay is hoping to be UIC’s next USG Vice President to continue her work in advocating for the needs of UIC students, focusing on igniting UIC’s campus culture and fostering connections within the student body. Fun fact, Dilay volunteered as a kindergarten teacher in 2 different countries this past year and loves to solo travel!


Student Trustee

Quinn

Quinn is a Chicago native pursuing a major in Finance at UIC. On campus, he is a Business Scholar and President of the Portfolio Management Team. He is also Chief of Staff of the Undergraduate Student Government. Quinn is hoping to be UIC’s next Student Trustee to continue his work advocating for the needs of UIC students, with a focus on student experience, campus safety, mental health, and providing more professional development opportunities. For fun, Quinn loves spending time with his dog as well as playing baseball and golf with his friends!

Aden

Aden, a Finance major at the University of Illinois Chicago, is a driven entrepreneur and passionate leader seeking to represent his peers as UIC USG IMPACT representative. With successful ventures in sneaker sales and co-founding SNKRFCTR, Aden brings valuable entrepreneurial experience to the table. He is committed to fostering diversity, inclusion, and positive change within the university through his involvement in various campus organizations and his vision for equitable representation. Beyond academics, Aden enjoys basketball and beach relaxation. With his dedication and multifaceted background, Aden Joe aims to advocate for meaningful change and the collective interests of the UIC community.

Dhanushri

Dhanushri, a freshman majoring in Computer Science and an international student from South India, brings a unique and diverse perspective to her role as a representative at USG. Already serving as a representative at USG, Dhanushri wants to continue her role to ensure that the diverse student communities at UIC are heard and represented. She is also passionate about making UIC a safer environment for all students. Recognizing the importance of improving the student government's responsiveness to student concerns, especially within UIC's diverse population, she strives to amplify voices and advocate for necessary changes. Beyond her commitments, Dhanushri enjoys spending time with friends, and venturing out to explore the city.

Fatou

Fatou, a third-year Chemistry and French student on the MD/PhD track, is passionate about creating a more welcoming and inclusive environment for black students on campus and supporting black organizations. Aspiring to strengthen her community at UIC, she seeks to become a representative in USG to advocate for these important initiatives. Currently serving as the Vice President of the African Student Council, Treasurer of the MSA, member of the Society for Future Physicians, Secretary of See the Silver Lining, and Treasurer of Muslim Residential Life, Fatou is actively involved in various campus organizations. In her leisure time, she enjoys playing tennis and soccer, indulging in anime and manga, and embracing her love for Marvel.

Michaella

Because UIC consists primarily of commuters, students need a place to wait in between classes. While there’s a commuter lounge, I even struggle to find seating on campus. This can be frustrating for students who have gaps in their schedules or need a quiet place to study. It would be beneficial for UIC to consider adding more seating, especially for those who rely on the campus for their daily activities.

As a candidate committed to enhancing campus life, I pledge to prioritize student well-being. My platform focuses on mental health support, green initiatives, and fostering a diverse community where every voice is heard. I aim to bridge the gap between administration and students, ensuring transparent communication and actionable solutions to our most pressing challenges. Together, we can build a more supportive, sustainable, and inclusive campus for all.

Ashley

Ashley, a freshman majoring in neuroscience and minoring in nutrition on the pre-med track, is committed to improving the student experience at UIC. Serving on the campus life committee and mental health commission, she strives to enhance mental health resources and overall campus life. Passionate about USG's role in student welfare, she aims to improve communication with the student body to build a stronger, safer community. Her focus areas include dining hall options, transportation resources, peer health programs, and promoting campus artwork. Ashley is actively involved in clubs like the powerlifting club, Society for Future Physicians, and Hearts for the Homeless.

Jiya

Jiya, a sophomore majoring in Integrated Health Studies, is deeply committed to her role in USG, advocating for mental health and supporting student organizations. With a focus on providing ample resources to empower these groups, Jiya collaborates closely with them to address key issues and enhance resource accessibility on campus. Alongside her involvement in USG, Light The Way, and the Pre-Dental Club, she enjoys traveling and cherishing moments with family and friends, enriching her college experience.

Nina

I am running for USG Representative because I’m passionate about improving our social and academic experience here at UIC. I am committed to listening and responding genuinely to students’ concerns, as well as increasing the accessibility of student government overall. I hope to expand on current USG policy by directly surveying students and collaborating with student organizations to make impactful and meaningful changes on campus.

Olamiji

Olamiji, a second-year student double majoring in Information Decision Science and Management, aspires to be a representative in USG to foster a strong community at UIC. She is committed to ensuring that every student knows where to access resources and information for a successful academic journey. Additionally, Olamiji is actively involved in various organizations, including serving as the President of Black Students in Business, Marketing Director of Couture Du Jour, and Honors College Ambassador, alongside her title of Business Scholar at UIC. In her leisure time, she enjoys watching movies, indulging in good food, and going shopping at the mall for fun.

Sajal

Sajal, a first-year computer science major in the GPPA med scholars program, has found fulfillment as a representative in USG, collaborating with dedicated individuals to enhance the student experience. Recognizing USG's potential for impact, Sajal is eager to continue representing peers and advocating for gender equity on campus. Passionate about initiatives like improving access to menstrual products and fostering community for underrepresented female majors, she aims to address these issues in her role as a representative. Additionally, Sajal is actively involved in MannMukti and the Honors College Advisory Board. In her leisure time, she enjoys watching Netflix, singing Broadway and Disney music.

Sarah

Sarah, a sophomore majoring in Nursing and in her 2nd year in USG, is dedicated to creating a better campus environment for all students. As a representative, she listens to student concerns and takes action to make a difference, focusing on increasing student engagement and utilizing media and resources to spread information effectively. Sara is actively involved in Phi Sigma Sigma as the Philanthropy and Service Chair and serves on the Public Affairs Committee in USG. In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer, traveling, and ice skating. Additionally, Sara is initiating efforts to improve student engagement within the nursing program and other pre-professional programs.

Tereza

Tereza, a sophomore at UIC, is pursuing dual degrees in Psychology and Finance on the Pre-Law track. Currently serving as the Mental Health Commissioner, she advocates for constant improvement and expansion of on-campus mental health resources, emphasizing their importance for student success. Engaged in leadership roles in USG and Active Minds at UIC, Tereza is dedicated to raising awareness and providing support for students facing mental health challenges. In the Honors College, she serves as a Teaching Assistant and Spirit Coordinator of the Honors College Advisory Board, alongside her role as an Analyst on the Portfolio Management Team. In her leisure time, Tereza enjoys exploring cafes, reading, and playing soccer.

Matoy

Matoy, a sophomore majoring in Finance is eager to become a representative in the USG to advocate for his peers and enact positive changes on campus. Matoy aims to create events and initiatives that bring more energy to campus, such as free food giveaways and playful competitions for all students to enjoy. Currently serving as the USG Treasurer, Phi Kappa Psi Treasurer, and UIC Student Fees Committee member, he is actively involved in campus leadership and financial matters. Some of his notable contributions in USG include organizing the Fall Semester Celebration, Thanksgiving Dinner giveaway, and Hygiene Giveaway for UIC students, demonstrating his commitment to enhancing campus life.

Nathan, a freshman at UIC majoring in Computer Science from Elmhurst, Illinois, is deeply engaged in campus activities and committed to academic excellence. As a member of the Undergraduate Student Government (USG), he's passionate about amplifying student voices and fostering transparency to enact positive changes. Nathan focuses on addressing academic concerns and enhancing resources for student success, particularly through initiatives related to professional development and open educational resources. Actively involved in campus organizations like the Honors College Advisory Board and Alpha Kappa Psi, Nathan dedicates his free time to making a positive impact on campus while enjoying activities such as exploring the city and playing spikeball.

Spencer, a first-year student majoring in physics, is driven by a desire to enhance the university experience for all students. Passionate about campus safety, Spencer aims to ensure that every student feels secure on campus. As a member of the Portfolio Management Team, he actively contributes to campus life and student initiatives. Outside of academics, Spencer enjoys watching movies, listening to music, and fishing in his free time, finding a balance between his academic pursuits and personal interests.

Yozlem, a junior majoring in Accounting, brings a diverse background as a Turkish native from Bulgaria with proficiency in four languages. Initially on the pre-dental track, she ultimately transitioned to her current field of study. Yozlem is committed to fostering a welcoming environment for students at UIC and amplifying their voices on campus. With a focus on student safety and wellness, she seeks to prioritize these aspects to ensure that all students feel supported in their academic journey.

James Saba, a freshman majoring in Mechanical Engineering, is eager to contribute to campus life and advocate for student needs through his involvement in the undergraduate student government. He sees this role as an opportunity to amplify student voices, collaborate on initiatives to enhance student experiences, and address important campus issues. James is particularly passionate about promoting mental health and well-being, advocating for prioritized resources and destigmatizing mental health discussions. Actively involved in campus organizations like Phi Kappa Psi and the interfraternity council, as well as the UIC Competitive Boxing Team and Boxing Club, James enjoys boxing, playing video games, and spending time with friends in his free time.

Akshat

Akshat, a freshman majoring in Finance, brings a diverse background to UIC, having lived in three different countries. With nearly 2.5 years of living experience in Chicago, he is deeply invested in the UIC community and seeks to enact positive change as a representative in USG. As a commuter student, Akshat is particularly attuned to the needs of students regarding the quality and availability of resources, campus safety, and mental health support. In addition to his commitment to USG, Akshat is actively involved in the Portfolio Management Team. Outside of his academic and extracurricular pursuits, he enjoys playing sports, playing video games, and listening to music in his free time.

Manasvi

Manasvi, a junior majoring in Biology and Criminology, Law, and Justice, is dedicated to advocating for various campus groups and continuing her involvement in USG. Recognizing USG as a powerful platform for creating change, she is passionate about promoting diversity and inclusion to ensure all students feel supported and valued on campus. Actively engaged in organizations like HCAB, PULL, The Film Society, and CHAARG, Manasvi also enjoys spending time with friends, exploring new places to eat, walking by the lakeshore, and discovering new books or shows.

Dream

Dream, a Junior studying Political Science and minoring in Public Policy with a concentration in Urban Politics on the pre-law track, is a dedicated community member both on and off campus. Her strong calling to help others propels her desire to become a representative in the Undergraduate Student Government. Dream is deeply passionate about improving the UIC experience for all students by bridging the gap between student concerns and faculty members. She actively advocates for student success and diversity and inclusion at UIC, serving as an RA, treasurer, and committee member for the chancellor’s committee on the status of Black students.

Campus Safety

VISION

Ensuring physical safety from harm is core to putting student wellbeing first. Over the past three years, our coalition has demonstrated this commitment by establishing the Campus Safety Commission. Collaborating closely with the UIC Police Department and administration, this commission diligently monitors safety conditions on campus and spearheads tangible policy improvements.

IMPACT UIC is dedicated to sustaining and expanding on this efforts. In the light of threat of violent crime throughout our city and spillover onto our campus, refuse to stand idly by while UIC students fall victim. We will implement targeted policies to secure our campus and protect each and every student.

GOALS

- Implementing a cardless digital I-Card system to enhance access control and security measures.

- Installing improved night lighting across campus to improve visibility and deter potential threats, similar to the Quad.

- Advocating for improved safety in residential halls through enhanced surveillance and security protocols.

Mental Health Support

VISION

Our dedication to your well-being extends beyond ensuring phsycial safety to encompass mental health and wellness. Within USG, only two commissions exist: the first focuses on safety, while the second is the Mental health Commission.

We established this specialized body to unify mental health resources with advocacy groups, aiming to drive continued improvements to the services that you receive. In the upcoming year, we are committed to accelerating this cause and significantly amplifying its positive impact.

GOALS

- Reducing student wait times for counseling services by bolstering the number of mental health professionals available to offer support.

- Enhancing mental health training for professors and campus workers to better equip them in identifying and addressing mental health concerns among students.

- Investing in additional sleeping areas for commuters to ensure they have access to restful spaces, promoting overall mental well-being and academic success.

Through enhanced event promotion, streamlined registration processes, and increased resource transparency, we aim to empower student initiatives. GOALS

- Implementing a system to promote student org events and creating a model for campus-wide promotion.

- Establishing a network of student leaders and a leadership council for centralized communication and connection.

- Improving student org registration systems by collaborating with CSI to streamline the process.

- Creating transparency around available resources and advocating for increased resources for student orgs.

- Enhancing room booking systems by revamping CSI’s reservation system and implementing accessibility measures, while enabling all student leaders to voice concerns.

- Advocating for a rapid response tutoring system to support students' academic success.

- Establishing a stronger relationship with UIC alumni and creating more professional development opportunities.

- Enhancing personal success by bringing more study spaces to campus and extending library hours to 24/7 access.

- Saving students money in the classroom by advocating for no tuition or student fee increases and improving UIC scholarship platforms with regularly updated access to scholarships.

- Incentivizing professors to use free textbooks and homework platforms to reduce financial burden on students.

- Saving students money beyond the classroom by improving student financial advising and implementing UIC student discounts with more local businesses, while also connecting students to emergency housing and food resources.
